Oilers announce emergency roster move for defenceman amid trade rumours
Moments ago, the Edmonton Oilers announced that the team has recalled defenceman Cam Dineen from the AHL on an emergency basis.
It's very interesting to see the Oilers make this emergency roster move with no apparent injuries to their defence. In the week of the trade deadline, a roster move like this can be a precursor to a trade.
Edmonton Oilers announce strange emergency recall of defenceman
Cam Dineen is a 26 year old left shot defenceman who's played 7 full seasons in the AHL. He appeared in 34 games for the Arizona Coyotes in 2021-22, but has not yet played for the Oilers.
Edmonton acquired Dineen before the trade deadline in 2023, as part of the package that brought
Nick Bjugstad to the Oilers. In 45 games with the Condors this year, Dineen has an impressive 29 points.
Oilers emergency recall could be precursor to coming trade
Making an emergency roster move like this would make sense if the Oilers were playing tomorrow and expecting to be down a defenceman - or perhaps if a trade is in the works.
We'll have to see in the coming hours if the Oilers are working on a larger roster move, or if Dineen is really going to be entering the Oilers lineup for the first time.
