The Edmonton Oilers have long been in the trade market for a defenceman, and they may be competing with their rival Vancouver Canucks to acquire Penguins defenceman Marcus Pettersson.
»Edmonton and Vancouver are interested in [Marcus Pettersson]. Other teams will surface, too. Given that he's playing on an expiring contract, I'd be very surprised if he isn't traded.»

Edmonton Oilers Connected to Penguins Defenceman Marcus Pettersson in Trade
Both the Oilers and Canucks could match this asking price, and perhaps more to accommodate salary retention. If both teams are capable of making the deal, it will come down to which team pounces first.
Marcus Pettersson fits the Oilers nearly perfectly as a two way defender, but is a left shot instead of a right. His career best season came last year, where he scored 30 points and had an impressive rating of +28 on a poor Penguins team.
It seems that Pettersson will either go to the Oilers or Canucks, so if Stan Bowman and Edmonton believe he's the best available option, they may want to make a move soon to prevent him from going to a rival.
