The Edmonton Oilers are going to see some significant turnover next season, which could potentially lead to their deepest forward group in recent years.
The Oilers lost a total of 63 goals from their offence by sending out Jeff Skinner, Viktor Arvidsson, Connor Brown, and Corey Perry. It looks like a hard list to replace, but predictions have the Oilers scoring even more this season.
Oilers analyst predicts new lines for start of 2025-26 regular season
These combinations look to be an improvement on every line from last season, and are just as deep despite losing their veteran talents.
After a major drop in scoring the last two season, Nugent-Hopkins may need to be moved off the first line to get the most out of McDavid. Zach Hyman could have a bounce back year, but the addition of the speedy checker with scoring ability in Mangiapane changes the first line for Edmonton.
Playing alongside Leon Draisaitl will be a great experience for Savoie, able to use his playmaking ability to complement the big sniper. With Vasily Podkolzin also working the line, there's no worry of defensive play in this combo.
The 2005-06 team was much stronger than most remember. The Oilers barely got into the playoffs that season, but that was mainly due to a lack of goaltending.
The lines above offer similar balance for coach Kris Knoblauch, with better talent than 20 years ago.
- Allan Mitchell
These combinations give the Oilers their deepest squad in well over 20 years, and on the cusp of a Stanley Cup win the last two years, it may be just enough to get them over the hump.
