The Edmonton Oilers are still actively looking to upgrade their roster with a new backup goaltender for next season.

Most recently, top Oilers insiders have linked the team to waiting for the waiver wire at the beginning of the season to force some moves - perhaps knocking loose a few young promising goalies like Michael DiPietro or Nico Daws.

Edmonton Oilers still actively looking to replace Calvin Pickard

According to a new report from Oilers insider Jason Gregor, the team is still actively looking to replace Calvin Pickard with another goalie with a higher ceiling closer to training camp.
They're looking for somebody who's going to be an upgrade on Calvin Pickard.

Whether it's in training camp when you start to see some guys potentially out on waivers, maybe there's another Silovs type of deal. DiPietro in Boston is a player

It'd be tough to see Pickard depart the team or head back to the AHL after his success in the playoffs last year - but the Oilers are committed to believing that Skinner is a winner. Upgrading on the backup position with another goalie with a higher ceiling is a smart bet.
And simply put, the Oilers can't head into next season without a real upgrade in net. The fact that they were doubting which goalie to start in the Stanley Cup Final is ludicrous.
Any new look in the Oilers crease is needed at this point, even if the Oilers give some ice time to a young goalie with the goal of developing him. There needs to be change at the goaltending position for next playoffs.
