The Edmonton Oilers' AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors have signed defenseman Mats Lindgren to an AHL contract for the 2025-26 season, according to Insider reports.
The value of Lindberg's contract is unclear at this time. The AHL league minimum, however, is $56,725, as per the AHL's CBA.
Mats Lindgren was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2022, 106th overall, but was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins shortly thereafter. He played seven games for the Pens, but failed to record a point.
The soon to be 21-year old defenseman had 7G and 14A in 56 games played in 2024-25, with ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, the Pittsburth Penguins' affiliate club, prior to which he played for the AHL's Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, also a Pittsburgh affiliate.
Mats Lindgren played 5 seasons in the WHL. In his first 3 seasons, he dressed for the Kamloops Blazers, and recorded 54 points (6G, 48A) in 94 games played as a defenseman; he finished a +21 with 54 PIM.
In the middle of those 5 WHL seasons, Mats Lindgren dressed for 10 games with the Chicago Cougars of the USPHL Premier league. He recorded 11 points (2G, 9A). In his final 2 WHL seasons, Mats played for the Red Deer Rebels. In 126 games, he recorded 78 points (18G and 57A), and was a +7, with 66 PIM.
The signing comes with a slew of others for the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets, including the headliner Kirill Tyutyayev.
Lindgren's stats suggest that he has an offensive upside to his game, and could get a look from the Oilers, if his skills translate at the AHL level. It is unclear whether Mats will be utilized strictly as depth in the AHL, or whether he was acquired as a trade asset.
With training camps opening in less than 8 weeks, more information will be made available to the media.
