Oilers analyst says top goalie prospect is ready for major promotion

Sometimes, a prospect's performances are so consistently exceptional, that his promotion cannot be ignored: Such is the case with goaltender Samuel Jonsson.
Ungar and Jonsson are putting up excellent numbers of the ECHL, likely indicating they would be better off at a higher level of play. But the logjam in Edmonton's goalie development system is preventing their promotion.
This isn't ideal, but it's not a disaster either, as all the minor league goalies are getting games. But if Edmonton wants to accelerate the development of one of Ungar or Jonsson, the AHL is where they evidently belong just now.

Goalie makes strong case for call-up to AHL
Of the two goalie, Samuel Jonsson is playing exceptionally well for the Fort Wayne Komets in the current ECHL season, including a string of shutouts.
Jonsson started the season with four straight wins and recorded three consecutive shutouts, a streak of 184:34 minutes of scoreless play.
He has been a dominant force, earning ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors and generating buzz as a top prospect for the NHL's Edmonton Oilers.
Jonsson's excellent play has led to speculation among fans and analysts about a potential call-up to the AHL, or even the NHL if he maintains this level of performance.
Of course, Bakersfield already has 3 goalies, with the intention of likely developing one (Connor Ingram) for the NHL Oilers. Except, neither he, nor Mat Tomkins is playing well-enough to deserve a call-up.
The Oilers' powers-that-be have some decisions to make regarding their goalie strategy: to demote one of the Condors' goalies to the ECHL, or promote Jonsson to the AHL.
All signs point to Jonsson getting his chance with Bakersfield, sooner rather than later.
