Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard is a divisive player among the fanbase, but he's also definitively one of the most clutch playoff players in NHL history.

Bouchard is having another fantastic playoffs this season, and will be up to re-sign with the Oilers this offseason. Hopefully, they lock him up for the max term.

NHL proves just how clutch Evan Bouchard is in playoffs over his career

Bouchard has averaged 0.69 points per game in the regular season over his career. In the playoffs, his scoring rate jumps to 1.09 points per game in 64 total games.
According to the NHL, this increase of 0.4 points per game in the playoffs is the biggest point increase of any player in NHL history.
It's reflected in the raw totals as well, as Bouchard ranks first in nearly all playoff offensive stats among defenceman since 2022.
What this means is that Evan Bouchard is able to elevate his game to his absolute best reliably in the playoffs. Over a 60+ game sample size, there's a clear trend of Bouchard producing at legendary levels.
Even in an environment like Edmonton where Bouchard frequently faces criticism, he's able to bring his best in the biggest moments. It's a major credit to Bouchard's personality, and also the leadership of the Oilers room.
A 25 year old right shot defenceman scoring well over a point per game in the playoffs is well worth a double digit salary on a long term contract. The Oilers need to prioritize getting this playoff killer solidified into their roster this offseason with an 8 year contract.
