The Edmonton Oilers still need to upgrade their goaltending position for next season, and if they do, Stuart Skinner could be a piece leaving the team.
Recent reports suggest the Oilers will most likely be looking at the waiver wire for a backup goalie in training camp, with Michael DiPietro and Nico Daws as solid options - but the door isn't totally closed to a trade yet.

In a new piece for the Athletic, Oilers analyst Allan Mitchell reported that other teams would most likely be asking for Stuart Skinner in any trade to acquire a proven veteran starter.
Stuart Skinner has exceptional value, both to the current edition of the Oilers and on the open market. His contract is $2.6 million for this season, an extreme value deal for any starting goaltender. He also has a great deal of experience in big games over the past three seasons (50 playoff games, two trips to the final) and could be a key piece in any deal for an upgrade in goal.

If the Oilers were to target a trade for Bruins' starter Jeremy Swayman or Islanders' Ilya Sorokin, it makes sense that they'd want a young NHL starter back like Stuart Skinner. He may struggle with the Oilers, but other teams could see potential for a reclamation project.
But really, it's impossible for the Oilers to make this kind of a trade with their salary cap situation. Only 200K away from the cap, the Oilers can't afford to bring in an $8M goalie and only move out Skinner's salary - and everyone else has No-move clauses.
If the Oilers do get a new goalie this season, it will likely be a cheaper salary than Stuart Skinner - a new backup to replace Calvin Pickard.
