The Edmonton Oilers are grinding through the last games of the regular season with a heavily depleted lineup, but all players seem to be targeting a return for their last crucial game against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Oilers are nearly locked into third place to begin the first round of the playoffs on the road against the Kings, so that final matchup will be a critical warm up game.
Bob Stauffer reports all Oilers are targeting return for game against Los Angeles Kings
According to a new report from Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, most of the team's injured players will be back for the Kings game.
Leon Draisaitl,
Jake Walman, and
Mattias Ekholm were targeting a return against LA.
There's also the factor that the Oilers next set of games will be a back-to-back, with the Los Angeles game being the second half. It's better to introduce players back into the lineup in that situation, and it's a much bigger test before the playoffs.
However, the Oilers did get good news today with the announcement that Mattias Ekholm will be returning to the lineup tonight.
Unfortunately, it was coupled with the news that
Trent Frederic may miss Game 1 of the playoffs with his injury. At this point, he's likely to miss much more than that.
The final game against Los Angeles will be a key test for both times sizing each other up before a playoff series - and it could be a choppy affair to instil some pain in the opponent before playing.
It's great that the Oilers will be back at full strength for the final two games of the season, only expecting to have Trent Frederic and
John Klingberg unavailable for Game 1.
