The 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast is reporting that the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid are aiming for a return date of April 9th against the St. Louis Blues.

Connor McDavid will stay with Stuart Skinner and Mattias Ekholm in Edmonton while the Oilers take their next 4 game road trip, but it's possible some of them may join the team mid-trip.

Insider claims Connor McDavid and Oilers have April 9th targeting for return date

The 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast have accurately broken numerous pieces of Oilers news this season, and are now reporting that McDavid will not join the team for their road trip at all - and will return on April 9th at home against the St. Louis Blues without any setbacks.
The report suggests that McDavid will remain in Edmonton to better try to rehab his injury, and there was a hope he could return to face the Kings. Perhaps if he is feeling well enough he will join the team, but the priority is to get fully healthy.
Earlier, Coach Knoblauch confirmed that McDavid will return before the end of the season. That raised alarm bells, because no one expected him to be out that long in the first place.

Oilers prioritizing rest for Connor McDavid injury

It's a major blow for the Oilers to lose Connor McDavid anytime, but the next four games could have huge effects on securing home ice advantage in the playoffs.
If McDavid misses the next four games entirely, he'll miss two important games against the Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings.
Both those games will be major contests for the standings and could seal the deal for the Oilers beginning the first round at home or on the road.
It's good that the Oilers and McDavid are prioritizing his health, keeping an eye on the importance of the upcoming playoff run instead of regular season stats. It's obviously unfortunate he's not in the lineup, but it is the best thing for the team now.
