Former Oiler Corey Perry has suffered a catastrophic injury at preliminary skates with the Los Angeles Kings.
Now 40 years old, Perry signed with the Los Angeles Kings for a bonus-laden $4M contract with the Kings this offseason. Leaving the rink in a wheelchair, this is a nightmare start for Perry with his new team.

Mayor's Manor has confirmed through multiple sources that the play in question appeared to take place along the boards, and it wasn't immediately clear if he went down as the result of catching a rut on the ice or if it was a result of contact from another player. Eventually, Perry was said to be taken off the ice in a wheelchair for further medical evaluation.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has confirmed the news, and added that Perry is undergoing more tests to hopefully make a determination on his return timeline before the season.
This is terrible news for Perry as he gears up for potentially his final NHL season.
The Oilers made the difficult decision to let Perry walk after he cemented himself as a key player and locker room figure on the team.
Last year Perry scored an impressive 19 goals playing mostly depth minutes, but the $4M was just unjustifiable regardless of his intangibles. Another year older, Perry will be hard-pressed to replicate his last season with Edmonton.
Even though he's on a rival team now, Oilers fans don't want to see Perry unable to play for a long portion of the season. Hopefully he gets good news with his injury, and can be on the ice as soon as possible.
