The Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL have announced the signing of their newest assistant coach, and former-Oiler, Pat Maroon.

"We are excited to add Pat to our coaching staff,» said Lumberjacks president Steve Lowe. «As a program, we are always self-evaluating on how we get better. When this opportunity was presented to us, it was hard to turn down. Adding someone like Pat, who has three Stanley Cup rings, is something that doesn't come along very often. Pat will be a great mentor for our players, coaching staff, and everyone at the Muskegon Lumberjacks."
Providing mentorship is something Maroon does well, and is a role he takes seriously, as he did with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and RNH during Pat's tenure with the Oilers (2015-16 to 2017-18) when he helped the the team qualify for the post-season following an 11-year drought.
«I think those learning curves and those experiences help people along the way," Pat Maroon said during an Oilersnation Everyday episode. "Those moments that you see, the breakdowns that happen and all those bad mistakes we probably made that we probably don't see, matured them as players and helped them along the way Now look at them.»

A great video recently emerged of Maroon coaching a group of young players, and he showed great instincts as a leader.
During his three years with the Oilers, the power-forward they call 'Big Rig' scored 49 goals and 86 points, mostly on a line with Connor McDavid, whom he helped, in part, become the player he is today.
Pat would be traded from Edmonton, and eventually find his way to his hometown team St. Louis Blues, where he won his first Stanley Cup in 2018-19. He was then traded to Tampa Bay, and helped that team win 2-consecutive Stanley Cups, his third.
Now, his winning pedigree will help young players develop in the USHL. You can be assured that Pat Maroon has plenty to teach them about how to play the right way.
