On a recent episode of 100% Canucks Podcast with John Shannon and Landon Ferraro, former-Oiler Evander Kane spoke fondly about his time with the Edmonton Oilers.
Kane will be remembered by Oilers' fans for some of his many highlight- moments, like the Gordie Howe Hat Trick in Game 3 of the 2024 playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings, scoring a goal, an assist, and a fight to secure a decisive Oilers' victory.
Yet, when asked by the 100% hosts, Kane spoke more generally about his time in Edmonton.
«It's tough to say just one thing... so many great memories. Really enjoyed my time there. Special place, special group of guys, a lot of great teams. A lot of on and off ice success there, friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime. Nothing but great memories.»
Perhaps some of Evander's more impactful memories were his playoff performances, like in the 2021-22 post-season, where he recorded 17 points (13G, 4A) in 15 games, tying
Nathan MacKinnon of the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche for most goals in the postseason.
Unfortunately, Evander Kane would miss the entire 2024-25 NHL regular season because of injury, undergoing abdominal surgery in September 2024 and knee surgery in January 2025 and was placed on the Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR)
Yet, despite having not played a game that season, Kane returned for the 2024-25 playoffs and recorded 12 points (6G, 6A) to help Edmonton return to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, displaying his tenacity and ability to overcome adversity.
Kane's tenure with Edmonton, however, came to an end shortly after the 2024-25 season; he was traded in June, 2025 to the Vancouver Canucks for a 4th-round pick, a move that was seen as a cap-dump from the Oilers' perspective.
Kane is currently in year 4 of a 4-year deal with Vancouver at a cap hit of $5.125M. Though he is 34-years old, he still has the ability to be a dominant player and a strong contributor on a contender.
There was some speculation this offseason that Kane could return to Edmonton when he becomes a UFA on July 1, 2026, a possibility that many Oilers' fans would like to see become a reality.
