The Edmonton Oilers have now confirmed that Evander Kane is slated for a return for Game 1 of the playoffs, which will surely draw the attention of the NHL.

Earlier this season there were reports that Evander Kane may be healthy enough to return earlier, and based on his current health status, that may be true.

Evander Kane looks primed for return in Game 1 of Oilers Playoffs

According to Kurt Leavins in a new piece for the Edmonton Journal, inside sources indicate Evander Kane will be ready for Game 1.
What I am hearing, Kane's progress has picked up substantially. Between that and Kris Knoblauch's encouraging words the other day, I am thinking Kane could be available for Game One of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

- Kurt Leavins

Evander Kane has been ramping up in practice, and is looking as close to game shape as he can now.
The Oilers forward is now joining the team on their next road trip, and according to a previous piece from Mark Spector that could be a good indication he's joining the Condors for a conditioning stint.
The Oilers fly home on April 8, and could assign Kane to Bakersfield for games on April 9, 11 and 12.

We think Kane won't be wild about playing three AHL games. We'd bet money he won't agree to the extra two.

- Mark Spector

Kane will play the final games of the AHL's regular season as a conditioning stint, but then will return to the Oilers and sit out their final two games before the playoffs.
The NHL can't be happy about that situation, especially that Kane will continue to sit out for salary cap reasons even after a conditioning stint.
In the Oilers defence, if he is finally deemed healthy enough to play in the final 2 games after missing the first 80 rehabbing from several surgeries, it will have been practically unforeseen circumstances.
The best case scenario for the Oilers now is for Kane to get up to game speed with his AHL assignment, and hopefully, the NHL turns the other cheek as it pertains to the Oilers LTIR usage for Kane in the final two games.
