Edmonton Oilers were the only team to skip a major NHL event this week

The NHL held their annual Media Tour in Vegas to start the regular season, but the Edmonton Oilers were the only team that did not send a player to represent their team.
At the beginning of the year, each team sends one or a pair of players to speak to media and make promotional content with the NHL - and it's an event that's gone on for a while. It's very strange to not see the Oilers there.

On the most recent edition of OilersNow, insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Edmonton was the only team not to send a player. All the while, Bob Stauffer chuckled in the background.
We're in Vegas. There's a media tour. You know, the Oilers didn't have anybody here, but there's a media tour here where every team but one brings a player or two and they do interviews.

Fans have also noticed the Oilers lacking in Media Tour content, and it's now been confirmed that they took the strange move to skip the event entirely.
Obviously, the NHL won't like the fact that the Oilers skipped out on their obligation to media and marketing for the year - especially when it's usually Connor McDavid representing the Oilers.
There's no known reason why the Oilers skipped the event, but a similar idea did pop up earlier last season. When Connor McDavid received a harsh suspension for cross checking Connor Garland, some suggested he should reduce media availability to the NHL. Skipping the media tour would certainly be a retaliation.
For whatever reason, the Oilers skipped the media and have all remained in Edmonton to continue informal skates before training camp. The team, especially including Connor McDavid, appear locked-in on the upcoming year.
