Edmonton Oilers sign hidden gem in German free agent forward

Free agent windows have begun to open up for college and international free agents of the last few weeks, and the Oilers are expected to sign a handful more young players.

According to the German paper BILD, Samanski has exercised an exit option in his DEL contract to sign with the Oilers. No term or salary details of the contract have been shared as of yet.

The 23 year old Samanski is listed as 6'2 and 178 pounds and a left shot centreman. He led his DEL team in scoring this season with 14 goals and 40 points in 52 games. Averaging 18 minutes a game he was a consistent option for the Tigers this season on both the power play and penalty kill, and added a quality playoff performance with 4 points in 6 games.

According to BILD, several NHL scouts were interested in Samanski through this season. The Oilers were the lucky team to strike a deal to bring him into the organization.

Hopefully Samanski can come to join the Oilers organization as soon as possible, and perhaps begin to carve a path to the NHL. Stan Bowman has had a history of success finding underrated players overseas, and perhaps Samanski can be the next player to jump to the NHL.

As a contending team with little draft capital, adding these types of prospects will be a key to rebuilding the Oilers weak prospect pool. After Samanski, the Oilers will continue to turn their attention to more prospects and young free agents to add to the organization.
