After a disappointing end to their season and a wild offseason, the Oilers are set to begin training camp in a few weeks and they may have found a prospect they could play alongside their top players.
Dave staples of the Edmonton Journal has identified Oilers prospect Shane Lachance as the player who will likely have a breakout year it plays in the NHL. Son of former NHL player Scott Lachance, the 20-year-old left winger who stands at a wopping 6 foot 5 and 218 lbs was drafted by the team in 2021, sixth round 186 overall.
Last season was his freshman year with Boston University of the NCAA and during that season, he scored 13 goals with 14 assists for 27 points through 40 games played. He also had 12 penalty minutes and was a + 15.
A player of his size would certainly benefit the Oilers as the NHL continues to get larger across the board. The Oilers could use size along the wings specially in the top 9 and with the young player like Lachance, he could be a player that could fill in for injured forward Evander Kane.
Only time will tell if Lachance will impress the Oilers management and coaching staff to allow them to have a longer look and potentially grant him a roster spot.
