The Four Nation face off break has begun and the Edmonton Oilers face a critical decision on how they will handle their trade deadline plans after signing John Klingberg to a one year deal.

How has John Klingberg's first five games as an Oiler adjusted Edmonton's Trade Deadline plans?

Oilersnation Everyday podcaster Liam Horrobin spoke about Klingberg's play and that the Oilers will need to decide whether to stand pat with their defence or go out and get another player like Connor Murphy of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Klingberg has not provided the offense spark needed

Klingberg has returned to the NHL after being sidelined with double hip surgery that shut him down when he was with the Toronto Maple Leafs last year in November.

Many pundits felt that he could provide some offence that's needed especially on the power play and at the point where he has a lethal shot.
Loved John Klingberg's wheels and passing in his Oilers debut. But he that was one wild break-out spin move in the first period, you know what I mean?

The Oilers decided to give him a five game sample to see whether he could make a difference and through those five games, he has no points and is a plus one but has played 17 minutes and 21 seconds of average ice time.
Having been away from the NHL for so long certainly will take time to gain back his confidence and gain back his game but it's becoming clear that the Oilers may need to look at the trade market to acquire another defenseman.

Connor Murphy may be what the Oilers need for their playoff run

Murphy has had a great season for the Blackhawks even though the team has been dreadful.
The 31-year-old defender stands at six foot 4 and 212 lbs and has played 42 games, scoring one goal with 12 assists for 13 points, he's also played 20 minutes and 43 seconds of average ice time which shows that he could be placed in the top 4 and will have one extra year on his contract.
Could Connor Murphy be a potential trade target for the Oilers?

If the Blackhawks were to trade Murphy to the Oilers and they were to retain 50% of his salary that would put him at $1 million for the remainder of this year and for next season.
General manager Stan Bowman would be foolish not to talk to Kyle Davidson an inquire if that could be possible.
