Moments ago, news broke from Edmonton reporters that Oilers superstar Connor McDavid is dealing with a lower-body injury.

According to a release from Mark Spector, McDavid seems considered to be day-to-day. The fact that the team is still debating playing him tomorrow night against the Vegas Golden Knights clearly suggests the injury is not major. However, any type of injury to Connor McDavid is a serious cause for concern for the Oilers, especially at time of year. In the last five minutes of the last game against Calgary, Knoblauch revealed McDavid tweaked something.

The Oilers play a gauntlet of games to end their season. Five games in seven days is certainly not a favourable schedule if they wish to rest players like Connor McDavid down the stretch. Still, resting their superstars and making sure the Oilers are at full strength heading into take playoffs will take precedent over playing McDavid through the rest of the season to win the most points in the standings.

We'll have to see where this goes, but it's surely not a positive report to see Connor McDavid missing from the lineup at practice. It looked like a certainty that McDavid would reach 100 points after he recorded his 99th against Calgary, but this injury could hold McDavid July a while for the playoffs - and threaten an extremely rare 100 assist season.

Hopefully, McDavid can rest a few games and then re-join the team to notch his 100th assist, and be ready for the playoffs.
