Connor McDavid is on one of the best hot-streaks of his entire career, and one of the best in modern NHL history.

Tallying another highlight-reel assist against the Boston Bruins last night, McDavid scored his 34th point in the month of December.

Connor McDavid makes NHL history with 34 points in a single month

With his 34 points in 15 games, McDavid has posted the single-highest scoring month since Mario Lemieux in December of 1995.
It's absolutely absurd for McDavid to be matching the scoring records of greats like Lemieux in the modern era of hockey. When McDavid is playing at this level, it's undeniable that he's the best player in the NHL by far - and one of the greats himself.
What's interesting about this particular scoring streak is that McDavid has actually said he's trying to have his game «peak» earlier this season due to the Olympics.
You have to find a way to peak in February. It's kind of unique that way, last year was a new experience. You go from playing a regular season, middle of the season kind of sleepy game, to a couple days later you're in what feels like playoffs Game 7. Guys are ramping up their games. Personally, I feel like I'm trying to do that too.

- Connor McDavid

It's not even the first time this season where McDavid has openly admitted he's going to try harder, and then go on a dominant streak.
After a 1-0 shutout loss to Minnesota on December 2nd, McDavid said he was passing up on too many scoring chances and needed to shoot more. He backed that up by scoring 12 goals in the following 10 games.
We're witnessing a player so great that he can strategize in public about his goals and then go achieve them against the top competition in the NHL. When he puts his mind to it, McDavid will never be denied.
This is a stretch of play that Oilers fans are just fortunate to watch. Turning 29 years old in just under two weeks, McDavid is still in his absolute prime as a player.
