The Edmonton Oilers took to the ice for practice today before facing the Tampa Bay Lightning without Connor McDavid on the ice, and a very different lineup from yesterday.
Connor McDavid absent from Oilers practice, lineup shaken up again
According to Oilers insider Bob Stauffer at practice, Connor McDavid was not on the ice. The Oilers captain is likely just resting, but the remainder of the lineup found themselves in new spots - which could indicate McDavid could miss a game.
Interestingly,
Troy Stecher was taking reps in place of defenceman
Ty Emberson, indicating that he could be a healthy scratch next time out. Troy Stecher had played well this year, but has been the odd man out since Klingberg joined.
According to Tony Brar, all defence pairs were mixing throughout practice, indicating that Coffey and Knoblauch could be trying out new pairings for their blueline.
The biggest hope for Oilers fans at the moment will just be receiving confirmation that Connor McDavid is fully healthy, and just took a needed rest day after the 4 Nations Faceoff.
After the 4 Nations Faceoff, Coach Knoblauch said that he couldn't keep McDavid away from the rink if he tried. If he's missing practice, McDavid may be dealing with a minor injury.
Other than that, these Oilers are clearly in a small rut of poor play stretching back before the 4 Nations Break. It's imperative the Oilers find a way to snap out of it quickly, and get back on the path to winning their division.
