Edmonton Oilers forward Trent Frederic is struggling to find ways to impact the lineup, but Boston fans are warning this is all he is.
The Oilers paid a heavy price for acquire Frederic at last year's trade deadline, and then signed him to an 8 year contract despite a poor playoffs. Now early this season,
he's been dropped to the 4th line already.
Boston fan warn Trent Frederic is a 4th liner, nothing more
Hearing about the news of Frederic's demotion, Boston Bruins fan Shaye Ganam relayed that Frederic is just a fine bottom six forward - and the Oilers shouldn't expect more.
Starting the season with Frederic on the first line was an experiment that ended quickly, and probably didn't put him in a position to succeed.
Frederic's role for 6 seasons with the Bruins was that of a bottom-six circling forward. He put up a career high of 40 points with a great Bruins team, but otherwise has never been relied upon to be a skilled player.
With the pressure of an 8 year contract and being elevated into a role he's never held before, the Oilers may be expecting too much - or something different - than Frederic can bring.
Now trying to find his confidence again on the 4th line, Frederic needs to get back to his game of being a physical presence and causing chaos on the ice. If he can get back to what's made him successful in the past, the 8 year contract may start to look a bit better.
Oilers fans will be hoping to see more from Trent Frederic soon, and to start making that contract look a little better.
