The Edmonton Oilers lost defenceman Alec Regula to injury after the 2nd game of the season, and now he's significantly behind his timeline for return.
Alec Regula significantly behind initial timeline for return
On October 14th, Oilers coach Knoblauch told reporters that Regula was hopeful to play on the team's 5 game road trip. Regula missed the entire trip, and 3 games after.
The Oilers haven't had many practices given their heavy schedule as of late, but he has got into 2 practices since his injury. Perhaps the lack of practices are part of the reason for his delay in a return.
The very fact that Regula is practicing is a positive sign given the nature of concussions. Players have to clear some significant thresholds just to get back on the ice after head injuries - so repeat practices should be a sign he could be returning soon.
He's proven to be the best depth defender with skating and moving the puck, and on top of that, his size of 6'4 is an asset that neither Emberson or Stecher have,
Hopefully when he's able to return to play, Regula can pick up where he started from, and solidify himself as the Oilers 6th defenceman.
