Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff has predicted that Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl may be the next in line to the all-time scoring record once Alexander Ovechkin overtakes Wayne Gretzky.
Draisaitl Along with
Auston Matthews and
David Pastrnak have been predicted as the three current generation goal scores who could surpassing Gretzky's 894 goals as his projected to finish his career with be 933.
Draisaitl on pace for a 60-goal season this year
Leon Draisaitl is slightly more likely (by 0.2%) than Auston Matthews to score 895. Draisaitl is two years Matthews' senior and only a handful of goals ahead.
The reason? Leon is on 60-goal watch and Auston has been limited to just 26 this season. Matthews, however, is 23 goals (and counting) ahead of Ovechkin through his age-27 season. Paul Pidutti
This season has been a career year for Draisaitl as he has been giving an MVP quality year as he has played 68 games, scored 49 goals with 52 assists for 101 points and is a + 30 and leads the NHL in goals.
He has taken the Oilers on his back at times and has worn his heart on his sleeve as he has shown the emotion and the compete level of an MVP.
As he is completing his first year of his eight-year contract worth $114 million, the 29-year-old center will continue to be one of the main pieces of the Oilers offense and the team itself with the notion that contract talks are now in the past.
Draisaitl looking forward to another chance at a Stanley Cup
After their devastating loss last year against the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup finals, Draisaitl along with the Oilers are looking forward to another chance at winning the Stanley Cup.
Draisaitl has proven himself to be an extremely effective playoff producer as he has scored thirty goals in the last three seasons in the playoffs and has had well over 30 points twice since 2021.
The Oilers are hoping for a strong finish in their division as they currently sit two points behind the Vegas Golden Knights who holds the sole possession of the Pacific Division.
The Oilers have 14 games remaining in their schedule and have won three games in a row. Many hope that Draisaitl along with
Connor McDavid and the rest of the team continues to push has the stretch run enters its final stage.
