Throwback: Oilers GM calls Blackhawks fans drunk
As the Edmonton Oilers face off against the Chicago Blackhawks for the first time tonight, it's a time to look back on one of the funniest moments in Oilers' history.
Glen Sather, the GM of the Oilers from 1980-2000, was once interviewed on TSN and asked his thoughts on Blackhawks fans and their rowdy building back in the day. Sather gave a blunt and hilarious answer, saying Hawks fans' drinking so much contributed to the hostile atmosphere in their arena, making it harder for road teams to win.
Sather was the General Manager of the Oilers through their dynasty years, winning the Stanley Cup five times and the President's trophy twice during his tenure. With the incredible success and witty personality he brought to the Edmonton Oilers for so long, he's undoubtedly one of the franchises' icons. Sather is still working in hockey to this day, now as a senior advisor to the New York Rangers.
