Oilers President Jeff Jackson has stated in a new interview that the team strongly believes Connor McDavid will soon sign a contract extension.

Reports surfaced earlier this week from top hockey insiders that McDavid may not sign before the regular season, which suggests there may be a significant holdup in the deal.

Oilers President reveals term is biggest issue with Connor McDavid contract talks

In a new interview with Bob Stauffer on OilersNow, Jackson revealed that the contract term is a point of contention between the two camps. Jackson has a close relationship with McDavid too as his former agent.
We're confident we're going to get a deal done. We're not nervous about it. Connor's been an Oiler for 10 years, and loves playing and living in Edmonton. For him, there's a comfort in Edmonton, the organization, and the people running the team.

It's not as straightforward sometimes as people would like it to be. He's just taking his time, trying to figure out what he would like to do vis-a-vis the term of a deal. Most options are far as term are on the table.

The term in McDavid's contract will essentially signal to the team how much longer he's comfortable committing to the Oilers - now that he's 10 years into his career without a Stanley Cup.
McDavid also isn't expected to be seeking the maximum salary, which will help the team field a more complete roster under the cap.
Overall, the Oilers are clearly the best spot for McDavid to win and the most comfortable area for himself personally. Insider Bob Stauffer came away from his interview with Jackson guaranteeing McDavid will re-sign in Edmonton.
The captain may be using this moment to evaluate the future of the team and make his feelings known to management, but there's no indication at all McDavid will leave the Oilers. It's just a matter of when he will sign.
