The Edmonton Oilers have been pleased with the sudden surge of prospect goaltender Brett Brochu who is currently playing for the Bakersfield Condors.
Brochu Has been a pleasant surprise for the Oilers as he has been giving them stellar goaltending and holding a .948 save percentage during his short stay with the Condors after playing his entire year with the ECHL.
Brochu rising in Oilers prospect pool after great performances
The 22-year-old netminder who stands at six feet in 176 lbs played for the Oilers affiliate Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL during this season. He amassed a record of 20-10-4 along with a goal against of 2.41 and a save percentage of .924.
Brochu, was well known for his stellar play for Team Canada during the 2022 world Junior ice hockey championships. He made 20 saves through 22 shots and Canada won the game 11-2 over team Austria.
Unfortunately, the entire tournament was cancelled, and the Canadian fans could not watch his play any further.
Oilers in need of goalie depth in organization
Goaltending has become a major question mark for the Oilers this season especially around the trade deadline as the team failed to upgrade their depth.
Many fans and pundits felt that the Oilers could have used an extra goaltender to help stabilize the net and give starting goaltender
Stuart Skinner some help or finding a starting goaltender who could replace Skinner and help the team in the playoffs.
Skinner had suffered an injury when
Mikko Rantanen of the Dallas Stars collided with Skinner causing him to have a concussion where he has missed several games.
If Brochu Continues to show that he can play at the American League level consistently, there is a possibility that the Oilers may look at him as a potential goaltender soon.
The Oilers have eight games remaining on the schedule and are trying to lock up home ice advantage against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Oilers are continuing their western road trip and will face off against the San Jose Sharks on April 3rd at 10:30 PM eastern.
