The Edmonton Oilers have their Own Ovechkin In the Making
The Young Stars Classic featured a Battle of Alberta, during which each team incurred seven penalties.
Before losing 4-3 to the Calgary Flames, the Edmonton Oilers' power play with the young stars was pretty lethal, scoring three goals.
During the Battle of Alberta, Matvey Petrov's one-timer contributed to forcing the game into overtime.
"It felt like a real game out there. It was a heavy, physical game, and it was a tight game," said Colin Chaulk, the Oilers' rookie coach and Head Coach of the Bakersfield Condors. "He (Petrov) made some nice plays on the power play. He sees some ice, he shoots the puck, and he makes some backdoor sneaky passes."
Petrov's power play, passing, and shooting earned him praise from Colin Chaulk, who praised him for his performance.
Shoot-first offensive winger with top-six upside. A good skater that is not afraid to play a feisty style but could use some improvement in his shift-to-shift compete level.

He shows shades of
Alexander Ovechkin, who was born in Moscow, Russia, and also has a killer one-timer.
In the video, Petrov posts up at the point, just like Ovechkin, and then receives the ideal pass to force overtime.
It will be exciting to see Petrov wear an Oilers uniform soon, as he is a shoot-first, Russian forward similar to Ovi and Kuznetsov before him.
