Have the Oilers found a loophole to Sign Patrick Kane with?
Patrick Kane is still in rehabilitation after undergoing hip surgery in June. He has started skating since then. There is no rush for him to find the next team as he expects recovery time to be between 4-6 months.
There have been rumors that the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in signing Patrick Kane.
Kane may be able to sign with the team under a special loophole for players above 35 years of age.
Connor Brown was signed by the Oilers with a league minimum contract, which is available to players 35 years and older under the CBA. The CBA states that performance bonuses can be loaded onto the contract, which will be deducted from next year's salary cap.
Although Connor Brown isn't 35+ years old, he has played 400 NHL games, which is why he was allowed to be signed, with this clause in the CBA.
Holland's Ace In The Hole
Is that another ace in Holland's pocket for signing Patrick Kane?
It's a neat trick that GMs can use to sign great talent on cheap deals, so it's something to think about once January 2024 rolls around.
