Oilers forward Zach Hyman hasn't exactly been cleared for a full return, but is very optimistic to return to game action in time for the regular season.

Hyman suffered a dislocated wrist and torn ligaments which required surgery and an extensive rehab process. The Oilers forward was spotted in a brace all through the summer, but now there appears to be progress.

Zach Hyman speaks on injury and expected return date

In a new interview with Sportsnet's Mark Spector, Hyman revealed that he's engaged in on-ice rehab while building back strength in his wrist. When asked about a potential return for the start of training camp, Hyman didn't rule out the possibility.
»Shooting is the last progression for me, but I'm feeling really good out there and doing everything that I'm supposed to be doing. Stick-handling, passing, all the fun stuff. So all is on track.»

«Don't know any of that stuff yet. But it'll be a good question to ask me in a week from now.»

The last step he needs to take is taking shots, and then getting every skill back to full strength. Given the fact he's already back to on-ice activities and isn't ruling out attending camp, there's reason for optimism that Hyman could play in Game 1 of the regular season.
Hyman will also need to have a great start to next season if he wants to make his case to Team Canada. The Oilers forward is setting a goal to make the roster.
»Your Olympic tryouts are your NHL games. There's no training camp or anything to make this team. It's a 'watch what you do on the ice' type of evaluation.»

- Hyman

Hyman was invited to the National Team's orientation camp, but was left off last year's 4 Nations Roster. He'll need to prove quickly just how effective he can be early next season to make the team for the 2026 Olympics.
Everything seems to be lining up for Hyman to be ready for a return at the start of the regular season, and motivated to have a great start to make Team Canada.
