The NHL's waiver wire has opened with teams making training camp cuts, and 2 interesting names on today's list may grab the attention of the Edmonton Oilers.
In the offseason, insiders had reported the Oilers may look to the waiver wire to acquire a new goaltender this season. They'll have their first opportunity to make a claim today.
NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed today's list of waivers, including Utah Mammoth goalie Connor Ingram and former Oilers first round pick Xavier Bourgault.
The Mammoth and Ingram previously announced a mutual decision to waive Ingram to allow the goaltender to find a fresh start elsewhere.
28 years old, Ingram has played 102 NHL games with a decent career save percentage of .902. He emerged as a starting caliber goalie in the 2022-23 season, but last year entered the player assistance program and struggled on the ice.
The Ottawa Senators are also trimming their training camp roster today, and have placed former Oiler prospect Xavier Bourgault on waivers - who is also unlikely to be claimed.
Though Bourgault has apparently impressed in Senators training camp, he's still far away from an NHL player, and still struggled in the AHL last year. Jarventie is seen as a talented call-up candidate for Edmonton now.
The Oilers are may be unlikely to claim either of these players on waivers, but they should continue to keep an eye out for promising talent available.
