The preliminary games are officially over at the Olympics, meaning the date and time of Team Canada’s next game has been set.
Canada needed to have a convincing win over Team France today to secure their position in the tournament, and they did so with a 10-2 win. From here on out, every game is a win or go home scenario.
Team Canada’s next game is set after preliminary rounds at Olympics
Team Canada will play their next game on Wednesday February 18th, against the winner of the game between Czechia and Denmark.
The game will be played at 4:10am MST, so it’ll be a very early morning for any Western Canadians willing to wake up and watch some elimination Olympic hockey. The only plus side is, fans may be able to catch the game before work.
The next round of the tournament also shows why it was so key for Canada to secure their position as the first seed with a high goal differential today against France.
Czechia will be the heavy favourite against Denmark, and Czechia will still be a fairly challenging opponent in an elimination game. Team Canada can have some confidence with their elite roster and previous 5-1 win over Czechia in Game 1.
However, Team USA will likely face Sweden in the next round of the tournament if they can beat Latvia. Sweden is a quality team with tons of NHL players who could be looking for an upset in the bracket round after disappointing preliminary results.
Team Canada will take these next few days for rest and additional practice to prepare for their next games, which will only increase in intensity as the tournament progresses. To win Gold, Canada needs to go undefeated the rest of the way - and they can absolutely do so.
