The Olympics has decided that Tom Wilson will be clear to play in the quarterfinals after his semi-fight at the end of Canada’s game vs. France.
Fighting is strictly prohibited by the IOC at the tournament, and is supposed to result in an immediate game misconduct with review for a suspension. Thankfully for Canada, Wilson avoided the worst.
NHL insider announces Tom Wilson will not face discipline for fight vs. France
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the IOC will not be issuing a suspension to Wilson or the French player Crinon for the fight.
Wilson got into a shoving match in front of France’s net while the game was already out of reach in the third period.
The French player was initiating the contact, presumably to stick up for their country in the blowout matchup and likely their final game of the tournament. Wilson obliged, and the pair dropped the gloves.
Thankfully Wilson will be able to play in the rest of the tournament, as he’s been a constant force on the forecheck the city any line he’s deployed on. He’s a physical presence that strikes actual fear into all of their opponents.
Connor McDavid said exactly that after the first game of the tournament. Wilson creates space for all of his teammates on the forecheck, allowing Canada’s skill to take over the game.
Unreal. Unreal. Both of them were amazing. Wilson is just a forechecking dog, so hard on guys, created so much space out there, it was fun. Celebrini was really impressive. Kept so many plays alive. He was dangerous, a great player.

It’s great that Wilson will be able to keep playing for Canada as they now move through the bracket rounds of the tournament.
