According to Team Canada's head coach Jon Cooper, defenseman Josh Morrissey will remain out of the lineup for Sunday’s preliminary round finale against France.
The good news is that the Winnipeg Jets' blueliner was seen on the ice this morning, a sign that he could be available for the medal rounds, as was posted by analyst Pierre LeBrun.
Morrissey takes to the ice following injury
The 30-year old defenseman was injured during Thursday's 5-0 win over Czechia, Canada's first game of the Winter Olympics. The injury was undisclosed at the time.
Morrisey was subsequently replaced by Travis Sanheim for Canada’s second game against Switzerland, a game Canada easily won 5-1.
Coach Cooper further announced that Florida's Brad Marchand would replace Morrissey for today's match, but the hasn't been the case, as the Panther forward is watching the game from the stands.
The gritty forward might have added an element of physicality and energy, though from how Canada has played, it doesn't really need it.
Though Canada should win the game without too much effort, they cannot take it lightly either. Every goal for and against carries importance.
Having said that, Canada has clinched first in Group A and will advance directly into the quarterfinals, deservedly so. They've played inspired hockey thus far and have earned every accolade.
Morrisey is having a productive season with Winnipeg, appearing in 56 games with 10G and 32 assists.
In addition, he played on Canada’s gold medal-winning team at the 4 Nations Face-Off last year, though he was unavailable for the final game because of illness.
There have been several storylines to follow so far with team Canada, though Connor McDavid's performances have been followed in the media and online with quite a bit of interest.
Let's go Canada!!
