Kevin Fiala was injured yesterday during the Canada-Switzerland game and are now told his Olympics and NHL season are over.
Awkward hit results in serious injury
Fiala was laying on the ice for several minutes after he was corralled into the side boards by Canada forward Tom Wilson late in the third period of yesterday's game.
The Kings' star forward was later removed on a stretcher and taken to a hospital in Milan.
The injury itself, however, seems to have occurred when Wilson awkwardly fell on Fiala's leg, when the two hit the ice tangled-up.
Wilson explained the sequence as a routine play, one that happens all the time in the NHL.
“It’s just unlucky,” Wilson said. “He’s a competitor, obviously, and at this point, it’s the Olympic Games, and I feel terrible that he may not be able to keep playing.
I’m sending his family and him my best. You never want to see a guy go down in a tournament like this. It [stinks] for their country, for their team, and just wishing him a quick recovery.”

Kevin Fiala's teammate also commented on the play, reinforcing that the injury was not intentional.
"It seemed like an innocuous play,” Nico Hischier said. “I don’t see any intention at all. It’s an unfortunate play and things like that happen. You get tangled up there and fell and twisted his leg."
The 29-year old Fiala has 18G and 40 points in 56 games this season for the Kings, who entered the Olympic break only three points behind the Ducks for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Fiala's presence on LA will certainly be missed for the remainder of the campaign.
