McDavid makes ominous comments on his future with Edmonton Oilers in new interview

Connor McDavid repeatedly stressed in a new interview that he's confident in the Oilers contending this year, but potentially not beyond that.
NHL insiders revealed yesterday that McDavid is not going to sign a contract as Oilers' training camp begins, and that he's concerned about the aging core of their roster. Now, the Captain has essentially confirmed that himself.
Connor McDavid makes multiple ominous comments on future with Edmonton Oilers
Speaking to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman in a new interview, McDavid alluded to the possibility he could leave the Oilers if he doesn't think they can contend past this year, and that nobody knows what will happen.
I think everybody's entitled to think whatever they want. I think people just kind of assumed that things were going to happen. And, you know, just goes to show that not everybody knows exactly what's going on.
My wife and I obviously love being here in Edmonton, and we have every intention, as I said, to win here in Edmonton and I have all the faith in the world in this '25-26 season. And beyond that still remains to be seen. We have time. It's our decision. Basically, we've earned that. And we're gonna take our time with it.

By repeatedly stressing his confidence in the team only for this season and also saying that winning is his top priority, it's unsettling to see the clear path that McDavid could leave Edmonton after this season.
The very fact that McDavid remains unsigned after the start of training camp is a position most Oilers fans didn't expect would come. Now, alarm bells are really ringing.
Hopefully the Oilers can continue to do everything to show McDavid that Edmonton will be able to continually contend for a Stanley Cup, and this is the best place for his career.
