Leon Draisaitl blew off a major personal event to play beer league game with McDavid

Leon Draisaitl was named the runner-up for the NHL's Hart Trophy this season, but he still collected some hardware. American Sports broadcaster ESPN held their annual ESPY awards last night in Los Angeles - where Leon Draisaitl won the award for best NHL player.

The ESPYs were hosted in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, putting on an entire award show presentation for the night. Top athletes from all sports were in attendance, but when Draisaitl was called upon for his award, he wasn't there.

The Oilers superstar opting to play a beer league game with McDavid instead of accepting an ESPY award is just fantastic to see.

Draisaitl himself doesn't shy away from the attention and limelight, and probably would've liked a weekend in LA to collect some hardware. The only thing better to him would be hanging out with McDavid and playing hockey.

The two Oilers superstars took the ice against some beer league opponents, with dozens of fans glued to the glass in a small rink. For the Oilers players it's just fun to get puck touches and be on the ice, and it's a great experience for the fans and community.

Draisaitl will certainly earn even more fans by choosing to spend his time hanging out with the Captain and fans, instead of influencers in LA.
