The Edmonton Oilers scored 5 unanswered goals for a dominant win over the Maple Leafs, with a bit of help from former Oiler Troy Stecher.
The Oilers lost Stecher on waivers, who's immediately taken on a massive role with the Maple Leafs on their top pair. He's been a great addition to the Leafs, but made one rough mistake last night.
Former Oiler Troy Stecher gave unfortunate message before gaffe
Just before the game, Stecher called the matchup against the Oilers and McDavid the biggest test of his hockey career.
One bad game won't change what anyone thinks about Stecher though. He's proven himself as a solid defender now with the Oilers and the Leafs.
Connor McDavid has been keeping up with Stecher's start with the Leafs, recognizing his great play and his contributions to the Oilers as well.
A great teammate. That's the biggest thing. An unbelievable teammate. Does whatever is asked of him. It's been great to see him come here and have such a big role. And he's playing great.
- Connor McDavid
That still didn't stop the Oilers from having a chuckle about the bounce from their former teammate.
It was good to see Stecher in his first matchup against the Oilers. Hopefully he's able to continue his solid career in his new opportunity. As a 31 year old undrafted and undersized defender, he's already beaten the odds with a career bearing 600 NHL games.
