In last year's playoff run, the Edmonton Oilers played Chappell Roan's Pink Pony Club as their locker room win song, but were tight-lipped about its origin.
The Oilers ended up losing another heartbreaker in the Stanley Cup Final, and the song will be put on the shelf for the team now. However, one forward has finally revealed why it was chosen as their song.
Former Oiler Connor Brown reveals reason why team picked Pink Pony Club as win song
»We were out for dinner in San Jose, there was a girl who was playing on the piano, and she started singing 'Pink Pony Club'. All the boys were bobbing their heads, and we needed a new win song. We were keeping the lips sealed, thought the imagination would be more funny.
After we lost, I can't listen to it anymore. Every time it just reminds me [of the loss] and now it just stings [to hear it].»
- Connor Brown
It was a unique win song for a playoff hockey team, which added some mystery behind it for the media through the run. In the end, it just shows how close the team was last season.
Picking Pink Pony Club did open up the Oilers to some roasts, and the Florida Panthers laid it on all offseason. Multiple players were seen celebrating their Cup Win to the Oilers' song over the summer.
The Oilers will be back in the playoffs next season, and hopefully will be able to go all the way - and play their victory song into September themselves.
