Although Huberdeau and the media are laughing about the comment, this apathy towards training camp isn't what a team wants to hear from a $10.5M player, and a veteran leader.
While he did improve last season to pot 28 goals and 62 points, he's still been far away from the 115 point player he was in his final year in Florida. Fans of the Flames and many other NHL teams found Huberdeau's comments tone deaf.
Huberdeau likely is just trying to keep the mood light and is preparing as usual for the season - but maybe they should put in some extra work instead.
With these kinds of comments from their team leader, the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are a long way away from having a heated rivalry in the Battle of Alberta.
