The Edmonton Oilers traded Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks this morning, and while Kane and the teams may be happy with the deal, Canucks fans certainly aren't.

The Oilers were looking to clear Kane's $5.125M of salary to pay for other extensions this summer. The Canucks took on full salary, and paid a 4th round draft pick to acquire Kane.

Evander Kane requested trade to Vancouver, Canucks fans livid with deal

Kane's agent Dan Milstein spoke with Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal, who revealed that 3 other teams were interested and had offers on the table for Kane. Oilers GM Stan Bowman did Kane a favour to pick Vancouver's deal.
The Oilers may miss Kane's physicality, but need to put his $5.125M to better than use than for a middle six winger.
Kane's put up decent scoring numbers in his time with the Oilers, at times has immensely with his passing and defensive zone play. Add in the constant poor penalties, and Kane became a negative asset for the Oilers.
Looking to offload his contract to re-sign other players, plenty of NHL analysts believed the Oilers may not get anything back for Kane. Not only did a rival team take on his full contract, but it's a team with noted locker room issues - and Kane has some baggage.

Canucks fans believe Kane will be personality issue in fragmented locker room

Canucks fans are livid that their team did a favour for the Edmonton Oilers, and added a player with a questionable locker room history into what's known to be a volatile environment in Vancouver. They practically just drove out a similar player in JT Miller.
This management team spent months ripping into Miller and Pettersson for creating a toxic environment and blaming last season on them instead of taking any responsibility.

Then they go out and trade for Evander Kane. You can't even make this up.

Kane had a slew of personal issues before arriving in Edmonton, but things have calmed down significantly in his time with the Oilers. There's been a few spats on the bench, but nothing more.
The Oilers now have $17M of cap space entering the offseason, with Evan Bouchard being the only player commanding a significant raise for next season. Edmonton may have a number of interesting options to add this summer - especially in goal.
