Kane has been in trade rumours since the Cup Final ended, as the Oilers are looking to clear salary cap space for this offseason. Kane is in the final year of his contract, worth $5.125M.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Edmonton Oilers will receive a 4th round draft pick in return for Evander Kane. Most importantly, Edmonton will not retain any salary, and will clear the full $5.125M off their books.
Evander Kane traded to Vancouver Canucks
It'll be tough for the Oilers to see Kane leave, especially to go to the rival Vancouver Canucks.
The 33 year old Power Forward has been able to bring scoring and a tough physical presence for the Oilers in his last three seasons, especially in the playoffs. In his best postseason with Edmonton, Kane scored 13 goals and 17 points in 15 games. Having him on the Canucks won't be easy to deal with.
Kane then made an emotional statement on social media, thanking everyone involved for his time in Edmonton - from players, staff, fans, friends, and family.
On top of that, Kane expressed some excitement to begin with his hometown team in Vancouver. In the final year of his contract, the Canucks will be a quality landing spot for him.
Though his time in Edmonton ended with a tough series, Kane was a quality contributor to the Oilers at many points. All the best to Kane for next season and in the rest of his career.
