The Edmonton Oilers are searching for an elite goaltender this offseason, but there may be problems with the most proven available option in John Gibson.

According to multiple insiders this week, John Gibson would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for Edmonton, and Anaheim would be willing to retain salary. They clearly want to make a deal, but Edmonton is hesitating to buy on Gibson.

NHL insider raises concern on John Gibson in locker room

NHL insider Frank Seravalli recently joined Bob Stauffer on OilersNow, and revealed that there is some concern about how John Gibson would mesh with the Edmonton locker room based on his past behaviour.
«He's been a really poor, or I should say difficult guy to get along with as a teammate. But he's not one of those goalies that's afraid to show up the players in front of him. And you can only imagine how that would go over in Edmonton.

- Frank Seravalli

It's obviously a concern to hear that Gibson has had some locker room issues in the past, especially because the Oilers locker room has seemed incredibly tight over the last few years. The Oilers locker room may be strong enough to take in a hot-tempered player, especially with Kane likely leaving, but it is a fair concern.
On top of any locker room concerns though, there's fair questions about John Gibson's recent play. He had a quality season last year, but still missed time with injuries and lost the starter's job to Lukas Dostal. Before last year, Gibson had struggled for a while.
The Edmonton Oilers have had so much time to trade for John Gibson if they strongly felt like he would be the solution in goal.
The fact that they haven't shows there could be real concerns about him, or even enough to not justify the price of a trade and his contract.
