New developments have emerged that make Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson being dealt to the Edmonton Oilers much more likely.

According to Dave Pagnotta, the Ducks organization has announced that it is willing to retain salary in a John Gibson trade - and the Ducks goaltender actually wants to play for Edmonton.

Oilers trade involving John Gibson rumored for months

The John Gibson to the Oilers rumors had been rampant over the past several months especially around the March trade deadline when many felt that the Oilers were looking for a new netminder as the team had lost confidence in Stuart Skinner.
Gibson was looking for a chance of a change of scenery as the Ducks were mired at the bottom of the standings with no sight of improvement.
Despite several trades including the recent deal with Chris Kreider coming from the New York Rangers, it appears the ducks would like to crown goalie Lukas Dostal as their new starting goaltender and shed money with Gibson to continue to improve the team up front.
The 31-year-old netminder who stands at 6 foot 2 and 214 lbs has played his entire career but the Anaheim Ducks which began in 2013.
Last season he had played 29 games, with a record of 11-11-2 and a goal against a 2.77 and a save percentage of .912.

John Gibson wants the net for himself

It was revealed by Elliot Friedman earlier this year that Gibson had a strong wish that he wanted the net to himself and not share with Stuart Skinner.
Gibson Has wanted to have a chance at proving himself with a contending team rather than a rebuilding one and he felt that the Oilers would be a great option.
With the recent loss of the Oilers in the Stanley Cup finals and goaltending still with a major question question mark, the likelihood of a potential deal between the ducks and the Oilers is growing.
If the team is willing to retain salary, it's likely the Oilers will explore this as a new number one goaltender is on the shopping list.
