The Edmonton Oilers have announced the team has signed Curtis Lazar to a one year contract for the league minimum, $775K.
Lazar has spent time in Edmonton during the very beginning of his hockey career, winning two championships with the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings. After a strong World Juniors, he went on to be drafted 17th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2013.

Now 30 years old, the BC native has racked up 572 career NHL games with the Senators, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, and the New Jersey Devils - a true journeyman.
Despite being drafted in the first round and entering the NHL at 18 years old, Lazar has never been a star player. He's only had a career high of 25 points that came two years ago. Lazar will serve as a a defensive right shot centreman on the 4th line.
Coming in at league minimum, there's zero risk for the Edmonton Oilers on this contract. It's a solid pickup of a NHL veteran who can play depth minutes, but it may not be such good news for
Noah Philp.
Also just signed to a one year contract extension, the Oilers prospect Philp was in line to step up for the 4th line center job. He'll now be battling it out with Lazar in training camp.
Hopefully the deal goes well, and Lazar can find a way to contribute positively to the Oilers this season. If not, no sweat anyway. It's a very solid depth signing for Edmonton.
