Connor McDavid criticizes his team and Oilers media for early season issues

The Edmonton Oilers squeaked out a close win over the Chicago Blackhawks last night, and Connor McDavid was fired up on a few topics after the game.
First off, McDavid actually criticized the Oilers for showing highlights of the Jays game during their own game. McDavid called the moment distracting and strange, but he was also focused on some on-ice issues.

Aside from speaking about the World Series, McDavid raised a seriously important point that may resonate with next year's Blue Jays. After falling short of the Stanley Cup, the Oilers regular season has become too emotionless.

It's understandable that the Oilers would find it more difficult to get up to face Chicago in October rather than Florida in June. But these are still the games in front of them, and the Oilers have to bring more.
Additionally, McDavid took aim at the critics of Evan Bouchard in the last week. Bouchard had faced heavy flak from Oilers media, then came back to score the overtime winner - and that's exactly what McDavid wants to see.
Bouchard had some poor errors this week, but proved exactly why the Oilers coach continues to trust him in key situations. McDavid and the locker room have his back, as Oilers media writes entire articles referencing Bouchard as «The Elephant» and made him to be the sole reason for the team's failures.
It's great leadership from McDavid on all fronts - even being displeased with the Jays highlights. He's here to deliver a championship to Edmonton, and even the moments in October will matter to shape this team through the year.
