Last week the Edmonton Oilers sent fan favorite Vincent Desharnais back down to the American Hockey League.
Many questioned this move, especially with the Oilers struggles defensively. However, according to Oilers Insider Jason Gregory, he would reveal Desharnais was sent down to the minors for "being sick" and not for his play or to make cap space.
"I'm amazed how many think keeping Desharnais would have changed anything. He's sick. He didn't play either game in AHL this weekend. Oilers PK was perfect 4-for-4 v. COL. And he isn't on 1st PK unit, which allowed both NYR goals. Giving up 3-0 leads cost them. Not 7th Dman."The Oilers are still looking for help on defence for a good puck moving defenceman. Desharnais is a solid defenceman but not the puck mover the team desperately needs.
