Oilers head coach crosses a new milestone.
Jay Woodcroft has had the luxury of having two of the best superstar players in the NHL on his roster since becoming the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers. He also has had a decent supporting cast for these players and had much success.
Woodcroft was coaching their AHL franchise, the Bakersfield Condors. He managed to clinch the Pacific Division playoff championship and the regular season title in 2019.
In early 2022 , the Oilers were sitting out of a playoff spot by 6 points. Oilers management felt that the team needed to change they moved away from Dave Tippett.
Fast forward to 2023, Woodcroft can now add another milestone to his resume.
Becoming the second-best point percentage in NHL history after 100 games is quite an achievement. His systems and style of coaching certainly resonate with the Oilers' players and he is a 21st-century head coach.
As the Oilers have sewn up another playoff spot this season, and will now attempt another run for the Stanley Cup, the path will be interesting and difficult however the Oilers do have a way to get there.
Woodcroft was the right choice to lead this team forward.
