NHL suspends Panthers forward for bulldozing Marc Andre Fleury
Moments ago, the NHL announced their decision to suspend Florida's William Lockwood for three games for his hit against Wild goaltender Marc Andre Fleury.
Lockwood came in with speed and made egregious contact with the goaltender, but also seemed to clearly pop his shoulder up and make contact with Fleury's head. Fleury later had to leave the game, which is extremely concerning considering his concussion history.
Shortly after the contact, Lockwood had to answer for the hit with a hard fight with Wild defender Brendan Duhaime. To end the fight, Duhaime popped Lockwood with a knockout punch that sent him buckling to the ice.
The NHL Department of player safety decided to suspend Lockwood for three games due to the egregious and avoidable contact with the goaltender and the injury sustained by Fleury on the play. It was a classless play by Lockwood, and he absolutely deserves the suspension.
