On Tuesday, Radio Color commentator Bob Stauffer, announced that the Edmonton Oilers will be giving a Training Camp PTO to Brandon Sutter, a 34-year-old center.

This is a surprising signing out of the Oilers camp. Brandon Sutter, has not played in a couple of seasons, nor has he gone under a physical in the past two years. The 34-year-old veteran, has 770 career games across three teams, the Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Vancouver Canucks. Not seen as much of a goal scorer he can fill out a bottom six at 6'3, 190 Ibs. With a career negative in +/-, -21, Sutter has 152 goals, 137 assists, for 289 career points. His best year was in 2009-10, scoring 21 goals, 19 assists, and 40 points in 72 games.
Edmonton Oilers fans are really questioning this PTO, there were a lot of other players that could have been given an invite but the team is giving Sutter a chance. This could work out if Sutter makes the team out of camp, playing fourth line minutes and helping out the younger players. But than again, it is very unlikely. Which is exactly how Oilers fans feel about it.
Is this what competitive teams do? Not usually, due to teams being comfortable with their current teams and core but maybe the Oilers are still considering options after a disappointing Postseason performance last year.
